Breaking down Barriers with PaLM 2, Google's Latest AI Development
Google I/O is a highly anticipated event for tech enthusiasts, and this year's conference did not disappoint. Attendees were treated to exciting news about the latest advancements in technology. With various announcements, Google demonstrated that it is constantly pushing boundaries and innovating in ways that will change the future of technology.
Hardware 📢
Google recently announced the release of three new hardware products that will catch your attention.
Firstly, the Pixel 7a is an ideal choice for those looking for a budget-friendly smartphone that doesn't compromise on features. Secondly, the Pixel Fold is the tech giant's first-ever foldable phone, allowing users to enjoy a tablet-like viewing experience on a portable device. Finally, the Pixel Tablet
Software 📢
The announcement of Android 14 has caused quite the buzz at Google's I/O event. As the newest version of one of the world's most widely used mobile operating systems, Android 14 brings with it new features and improvements that promise to make your smartphone experience even smoother and more intuitive.
Artificial Intelligence 📢
Google, one of the pioneers in this field, has recently announced the release of its latest AI language model: PaLM 2.
This cutting-edge technology is seen as a formidable competitor to rival systems like OpenAI's GPT-4. With its advanced neural network architecture and superior performance capabilities, PaLM 2 is set to revolutionize natural language processing, enabling machines to understand and respond to human language more accurately than ever before.
With its strong focus on logic and reasoning, these models are capable of pinpointing accuracy that can revolutionize the way we interact with technology. Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, is a true believer in the power of these models and recently announced that PaLM 2 is also trained on multilingual text spanning over 100 languages.
PaLM 2 has added a new feature that has got the programming community buzzing. This update promises improved support for writing and debugging code, aiming to smoothen the programming process for developers. What makes PaLM 2 unique is that it has been trained in 20 different programming languages, ranging from JavaScript and Python to more obscure ones like Prolog, Verilog, and Fortran.
PaLM 2 is now accessible to developers through Google's PaLM API, Firebase, and Colab. With this latest release, developers can leverage the functionalities of cutting-edge natural language processing technology to build more advanced machine learning models.
While it's not a single product, it functions as a family of products with different versions to cater to all kinds of users. Whether you're an individual or an enterprise, PaLM 2 has got you covered with its four different sizes named Gecko, Otter, Bison, and Unicorn.
The lightest version of PaLM 2, otherwise known as Gecko, has been designed to be small enough to run on mobile phones.
With PaLM 2, Google hopes to close the "AI gap" between the company and competitors like Microsoft, which has been aggressively pushing AI language tools into its Office software suite.
There was something for everyone at the conference, from new software updates to cutting-edge hardware. The energy and enthusiasm of the attendees were palpable, making it clear that Google is still a leader in the tech industry and continues to inspire and motivate developers and tech enthusiasts around the world.

I was in the confidential preview of the PaLM API, and now I can finally talk about it.
It's seriously underrated. A couple takeaways:
1. Programming ability is often better than ChatGPT.
2. Seems to be more regularly retrained. This has HUGE implications (continued):
